Salsa Beginners

Description

Level 1 Salsa is designed for complete beginners and those returning to the fundamentals. No partner is required, all ages and experience levels are welcome, and classes are taught in a fun, friendly and easy going environment with simple, step by step instruction. In this course we focus on the core building blocks of Salsa, including basic steps, right turns, cross body lead, timing, rhythm, and both open and closed positions. Depending on the class, you may also be introduced to a few bonus moves once the foundations are in place.

It is strongly recommended that students complete Level 1 twice in a row before moving up to Level 2 Salsa. This allows you to build confidence, consistency, and comfort with the fundamentals. At the end of your course, please check in with your teachers for personalised advice on when you are ready to progress.

Learning Salsa is also about connection and community. Come along, meet new people, and learn one of the most fun and social hobbies you can do. Partner dancing is not about two people memorising the same routine at the same time. It is a shared language. Once you understand it, you can dance with anyone, anywhere in the world.

Partner dancing helps you become present in the moment. It is grounding and uplifting at the same time. Leaders, including ladies who choose to lead, learn how to communicate movement clearly. Followers, traditionally women but open to everyone, learn how to “listen” to the lead signals, respond, and let go of trying to predict what comes next. That sense of letting go takes practice, but once it clicks, the experience is incredibly rewarding.
